بها كل صفات الطيور، لها أجنحة، ومناقير، وتضع البيض، ولكنها فقط لا تستطيع التحليق، وربما هذا، إضافة لكونها لا تتمتع بـ4 قوائم، هو ما أدى إلى تعرض معظمها إلى الانقراض بعد أن لم تعد لها القدرة على مواجهة الأخطار، لاسيما الأخطار البشرية. تعالوا نتعرف على 5 أنواع.

1 الكاكابو

من الطيور الأرضية المهددة بالانقراض ويطلق عليه الببغاء النيوزيلند ي، وقد تقلصت أعداده إلى 50 طائراً في الثمانينيا ت لكن مع بداية التسعينيات نجحت جهود الحفاظ على ذلك الطائر النادر من زيادة أرقامه إلى أكثر من 120. يتغذى الكاكابو على الفواكه، والثمار، والحبوب، والمكسرات، والأوراق الخضراء.

2 بطريق روكهوبر

من أنواع البطاريق رائعة المنظر، يتواجد على السواحل الجنوبية من أميركا اللاتينية ويتميز بريش أصفر لامع يمتد من فوق العين حتى مؤخرة رأسه، وهو من الطيور المعرضة للانقراض، ويتغذى على الأسماك.

3 طائر تفلق الجزيرة الموحشة

أحد الطيور المتواجدة في نيوزيلندا وهو النوع الوحيد من طيور التفلق غير القادرة على الطيران الذي لم ينقرض بعد، وربما يعود ذلك إلى كونه يعيش في جزيرة موحشة يصعب الوصول إليها.

يوجد منه 5 أنواع جميعها معرضة للانقراض، وهو من الطيور التي تبحث عن الطعام ليلاً ويشتهر بالخجل، وقد اتخذته نيوزيلندا رمزاً وطنياً لها.

5 غاق غالاباغوس

يعيش في عزلة بجزر غالاباغوس، مهدد بالانقراض خاصة أن أعداده تقدر بحوالي 1500 طائر فقط. يتغذى على الأسماك والمخلوقات البحرية الصغيرة.
