الأشجار من أكثر الكائنات المعمرة على وجه الأرض، فبعض الأشجار عاشت لمئات السنين، وأخرى عاشت لآلاف، شاهدة بذلك على العديد من الحقب التاريخية المختلفة. هذه قائمة بأكبر الأشجار عمراً وحجماً على هذا الكوكب.

1 ‏Methusela h

‏Methusela h هي الشجرة صاحبة العمر الأطول بين فصائل الأشجار جميعاً، والأقدم منها تبلغ من العمر 4800 عاماً وهي موجودة في ولاية نيفادا الأميركية، وقد كان هناك شجرة أقدم منها إلا أنها قطعت في عام 1964 نتيجة للتلف الشديد الذي كانت تعاني منه.

‏Alerce إحدى فصائل الأشجار التي كانت موجودة عل الأرض منذ نحو 35 مليون سنة، وهي الحقيقة التي عرفها الإنسان من خلال الحفريات، وتبلغ الشجرة الأقدم من ذلك النوع نحو 3600 سنة.

‏The Senator تعيش الأقدم منها في الولايات المتحدة الأميركية وتبلغ من العمر ما بين 3500 إلى 3600 سنة، وتبلغ من الحجم 5100 قدم مكعب وذلك يجعلها الشجرة الأكبر من ذلك النوع في أميركا من حيث الحجم أيضاً.

‏Patriarch وهي الشجرة الأكبر في الغابات في أميركا الجنوبية وهي الأقدم في ذات الوقت، إذ تبلغ من العمر 3000 عام.

ينمو نوع ‏Alyshun من الأشجار ببطء لكنه ينمو إلى ارتفاع كبير (55 متر) ويبلغ قطر جذعها نحو 7 أمتار، وقد كانت الشجرة الأقدم من تلك الفصيلة في تايوان وتبلغ من العمر 3000 عام إلا أنها سقطت في إحدى العواصف الممطرة عام 1997.
